How the estimate works
Meta charges a fixed rate for each delivered message, by category and by the country of the person receiving it. The calculator multiplies your messages by Meta’s India rate for each category. If you add your provider’s rates, it does the same with those, and the difference is what you pay over Meta.
It is an estimate, not your bill. Your provider’s dashboard has the exact figure. Use this to see the shape of the cost and how much of it is markup.
Meta’s WhatsApp rates in India
These are Meta’s list rates in rupees for messages to Indian numbers, effective 1 October 2026, before GST.
| Category | Rate per delivered message |
|---|---|
| Marketing | ₹0.8631 |
| Utility | ₹0.115 |
| Authentication | ₹0.115 |
| Service | ₹0.115 after the first 1,000 free each month |
Source: Meta’s pricing page and its INR rate card. Meta can change rates only on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October.
Utility and authentication messages get cheaper in volume tiers, but in India the first tier starts at 2.5 crore utility or 7.5 lakh authentication messages a month, so most brands pay the list rate. The calculator applies the tiers if you reach them.
A worked example
A brand sends 25,000 marketing messages and 20,000 order and delivery updates in a month. At Meta’s rates, that is ₹21,578 for marketing and ₹2,300 for utility, ₹23,878 before GST. At my Kwik Engage rates of ₹0.96 and ₹0.20, it is ₹28,000.
The extra comes from the gap in each rate. Marketing costs ₹0.0969 more per message than Meta (₹0.96 − ₹0.8631), so 25,000 messages cost ₹2,423 extra. Utility costs ₹0.085 more per message (₹0.20 − ₹0.115), so 20,000 messages cost ₹1,700 extra. Together that is ₹4,123 a month, 17.3% more than Meta’s ₹23,878, and ₹49,476 over a year (₹4,123 × 12).
Look at each category on its own. Here the provider charges 11% more than Meta on marketing messages but 74% more on utility, so a brand that sends mostly order updates pays a much higher markup than one that sends mostly campaigns.
Where to find your provider’s rates
Most providers publish a rate per message on their pricing page, or show it on your invoice and wallet history. Check three things before you compare.
- Whether the rate includes GST. A rate of ₹1.09 before GST is a much bigger markup than ₹1.09 including it.
- Whether you pay for sent messages or delivered ones. Meta charges only for delivered messages.
- Whether chatbot or AI replies cost extra on top of the message rate.
- What the monthly platform fee is, since it comes on top of every message.
Meta’s rates are the same whichever provider you use. What changes between providers is the markup, the platform fee, and what the platform does to get your messages delivered and read. For the full picture, read my guide to WhatsApp marketing cost in India.
Questions about WhatsApp pricing

Meta charges per delivered message, based on the message category and the recipient’s country. In India, marketing messages cost ₹0.8631 and utility, authentication and service messages ₹0.115, before GST, as of 1 October 2026. Your provider adds its own markup and platform fee.

How much markup do WhatsApp providers charge?
It varies by provider and plan. Compare the rate per message your provider charges, before GST, with Meta’s list rate for the same category. The calculator on this page does that for your volumes.
Is GST charged on WhatsApp messages?
Yes. Meta’s rates are before GST, and providers in India add 18% GST to message charges and platform fees. Check whether a provider’s quoted rate includes GST before comparing it with Meta’s.
Do I pay for WhatsApp messages that are not delivered?
Meta charges only for delivered messages. Check that your provider bills the same way, and not for every message sent.
Are WhatsApp service messages free?
Not any more. From 1 October 2026, each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, and Meta charges ₹0.115 for each one after that in India. Messages inside a free entry point window from a click-to-WhatsApp ad remain free.
