CRM Executive: Meaning, Job Description, Roles, Salary
CRM executive meaning, a ready-to-use job description, and roles at D2C brands, apps and real estate firms, with skills, salary and resume lines.

Updated October 2026.
A CRM executive (customer relationship management executive) looks after a company's existing customers or leads using a CRM tool. At a D2C brand or consumer app, that means sending automated messages to bring customers back. At a real estate company, it means handling buyers one by one, from enquiry to possession.
Same title, two different jobs. Below are the CRM executive meaning, a job description you can use for each, the roles and responsibilities, the skills you need and how to get hired.
I started on the marketing side and went on to head CRM at Healthify, where the team ran journeys for an app with over 4 crore users. You can see some of that work in the Healthify in-app funnels case study.
CRM executive meaning
CRM stands for customer relationship management, or ग्राहक संबंध प्रबंधन in Hindi. An executive is usually the first level in a team, the person who does the hands-on work and reports to a CRM manager.
So a CRM executive is the person who manages customer relationships day to day. Which customers, and how, depends on the business. I've compared the two sides in detail in CRM marketing vs CRM sales.
CRM executive job description
Here are two job descriptions, one for each version of the role. Hiring managers can adapt them, and job seekers can check a real post against them to see which kind of CRM job it is.
CRM executive job description: D2C brand or consumer app
- Role summary: Run the brand's communication with existing customers across email, WhatsApp, SMS and push, to bring them back to buy again.
- Responsibilities: Plan and send weekly campaigns. Build and maintain automated journeys such as welcome, abandoned cart, reorder and win-back. Create customer segments. Write and test message copy with the design team. Monitor delivery and fix issues with the tech team. Report opens, clicks, orders and revenue every week.
- Requirements: Graduate in any subject. 0 to 3 years in CRM, email or lifecycle marketing. Comfortable with Excel. Clear, short writing.
- Tools: A CRM platform such as CleverTap, MoEngage, WebEngage or Klaviyo, a WhatsApp Business API provider, Google Analytics and Excel or Google Sheets.
- Measured on: Delivery and click rates, orders and revenue from CRM, and repeat purchase rate.
CRM executive job description: real estate
- Role summary: Manage buyers from enquiry or booking to registration and possession, and keep every interaction recorded in the CRM.

CRM executive roles and responsibilities at D2C brands and apps
Here the job is marketing. You talk to thousands of customers at once through email, WhatsApp, SMS and push notifications, using a platform like CleverTap, MoEngage or WebEngage. My comparison of the main platforms explains how they differ.
- Running campaigns. Planning and sending one-off messages for launches, sales and festivals.
- Building journeys. Setting up automated flows that trigger on what a customer does, like an abandoned cart reminder.
- Segmenting customers. Picking who gets which message, by orders, spend, last visit or product bought.
- Writing and testing messages. Drafting copy, choosing images and running A/B tests.
- Checking delivery. Making sure messages actually reach people. On WhatsApp, delivery rate is often the first problem to fix.
- Reporting. Tracking opens, clicks, orders and revenue from each campaign, and sharing what worked.
- Bringing lapsed customers back. Running win-back campaigns for people who stopped buying.
A day as a CRM executive at a D2C brand
Most days follow the same rhythm. The morning starts with yesterday's numbers. Then come the day's campaigns, then fixing anything that broke, then setting up what goes out next.

The work sits between marketing, design and the tech team. You'll ask design for creatives, ask tech why an event isn't firing, and tell marketing which offer brought people back.
CRM executive roles and responsibilities in real estate
Here the job is closer to customer service and sales. You handle buyers one at a time, often by phone and in person. Some companies split it into pre-sales and post-sales.
- Handling enquiries. Calling back leads from ads, portals and walk-ins, and booking site visits.
- Following up. Keeping in touch with interested buyers until they book.
- Booking paperwork. Collecting documents and preparing the booking form, allotment letter and agreement.
- Payment follow-ups. Sending demand letters as construction stages are reached and following up on payments.
- Home loan coordination. Working with the buyer's bank so loan payments arrive on time.
- Registration and possession. Arranging the registration and the handover of the flat.
- Updating the CRM. Recording every call, visit and payment against the buyer's record.
CRM executive skills
| Skill | D2C brands and apps | Real estate |
|---|---|---|
| Main tool | CleverTap, MoEngage, WebEngage, Klaviyo | Salesforce, LeadSquared, Zoho CRM, Sell.Do |
| Communication | Writing short, clear messages | Speaking to buyers, calm under pressure |
| Measured on (KPIs) | Open rate, conversion, repeat purchase, revenue | Site visits, bookings, collections |
| Excel | Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, basic charts | Trackers and payment schedules |
| Most valued | Reading data and writing the message | Follow-up discipline and patience |
For the marketing side, the metrics matter more than anything else. My guide on how to become a CRM marketer explains each one and the projects that prove you know them.
CRM executive job titles to search for
Companies name the same work in different ways. On the marketing side, look for CRM marketing executive, CRM campaign executive, lifecycle executive, retention executive and email marketing executive. A CRM operations or CRM data executive usually builds segments, reports and the platform setup, with less writing.
In real estate, look for CRM executive, post-sales executive, customer relations executive and pre-sales executive. A CRM handover executive works on the last stage, possession.
CRM executive vs senior CRM executive vs CRM manager
| Level | What changes |
|---|---|
| CRM executive | Sends campaigns and builds journeys someone else planned |
| Senior CRM executive | Plans campaigns for a channel or a segment, mentors juniors |
| CRM manager | Owns the CRM calendar, the targets and the platform, and reports revenue to leadership |
The jump from executive to manager is about ownership. An executive is judged on whether things went out right, and a manager on whether they made money.
CRM executive roles and responsibilities for your resume
Write what you did and what changed, not a copy of the job description. A few sample lines for the marketing side follow.
- Built and ran 12 automated journeys on MoEngage, including cart, browse and replenishment reminders.
- Sent 4 to 5 campaigns a week across email, WhatsApp and push to a base of 2 lakh customers.
- Segmented customers by order count and last purchase date to target win-back offers.
- Ran A/B tests on subject lines and send times, and reported results weekly.
For real estate, the same rule applies.
- Managed post-sales for 150 bookings, from agreement to registration.
- Followed up on payment milestones and coordinated home loan disbursements with banks.
- Kept every buyer record in Salesforce updated after each call and visit.
Swap in your own tools and numbers. A line with a real number beats a line with a long word.
CRM executive salary in India
Salary sites mix both versions of the job, so their averages aren't much use. For the marketing side, a CRM executive starting out earns roughly ₹4 to 10 LPA in my experience, depending on the city and company. Manager roles reach ₹20 LPA and above.
Real estate CRM roles are often paid partly through incentives tied to bookings and collections, so the fixed salary is only part of the picture. Ask about both before you accept.
How to become a CRM executive
There's no fixed qualification. Most companies ask for a graduate degree in any subject, and many hire freshers.
- Pick a side. Marketing if you like writing and data, real estate if you like talking to people and closing.
- Learn the basics. For marketing, the metrics and the customer funnel. For real estate, the buying process and the paperwork.
- Show proof. A small project analysing customer data, or a set of sample messages for a brand you like, beats a certificate.
- Read job posts closely. Words like journeys, retention and lifecycle mean marketing. Site visits, collections and closures mean real estate.
When you get to interviews, my guide to CRM interview questions covers what each level is asked.
